Petroleum Tank Farm

Our 650,000 barrel Petroleum Tank Farm consists of seven (7) major above ground on site storage tanks. Surrounded by a reinforced concrete containment wall that exceeds the states containment requirements ensures the protection and safety of handling commodities of this nature. No. 6, No. 4 and No. 2 Diesel Oil, Kerosene and liquid asphalt allow GT to offer our customers a varied product base, which is used within the greater New England and New York metropolitan areas.

Our tank farm also offers a fuel depot station consisting of a scale house/operations center, eight (8) station commercial truck "loading rack" and a truck weigh station permitting tank trucks to be loaded and dispatched in a highly efficient, economical and timely manner. Gateway Terminal handles over one million (1,000,000) gallons of heating oil daily supplying the local schools, universities, hospitals, business, homes and government facilities within the State of Connecticut and Southern New England.

Listed below are some of the liquid products we handle:

  • Asphalt
  • Diesel Fuel
  • Kerosene
  • No. 6 Diesel Oil
  • No. 4 Diesel Oil
  • No. 2 Diesel Oil
  • Bio Fuel

Asphalt

Tank No.5 and 7 store a total of 123,000 barrel / 5.14 million gallons of two types of asphalt: PG 64.28 and PG 52.28. Having a Waugh asphalt blender located on site allows us to produce various grades of asphalt products as required by our customers. Heated by two (2) American heating re-circulating hot oil heaters, which produce 11.43 mm BTU per hour, these two tanks are continuously heated to maintain a minimum temperature of 300 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year.

Diesel Fuel

Of the 650,000 barrels storage capacity of our liquid petroleum products, 31% or 200,000 barrels / 8.4 million gallons is Diesel Oil (or Fuel). While this fuel is used primarily as over the road vehicle use, because of its low sulfur content of maximum .05%, large consumers such as universities and hospitals are using our product to meet state emissions standards.

Red Diesel (tax exempt fuel) is also available at our facility, used for off road heavy equipment and engines, as well as state and municipal vehicles.

We store a total of 118,463 barrels / 5 million gallons of Kerosene in tanks No.1 and No.6. Kerosene with its low sulfur content is used in turbine plants, aviation fuel and both commercial and non commercial use of buses and heaters.

Kerosene

We store a total of 118,463 barrels / 5 million gallons of Kerosene in tanks No.1 and No.6. Kerosene with its low sulfur content is used in turbine plants, aviation fuel and both commercial and non commercial use of buses and heaters.

No. 6 Fuel Oil

Our second largest tank totaling 119,360 barrels / 5 million gallons stores No. 6 Fuel Oil primarily for industrial use in boilers. This tank is heated by our Johnston Boiler 534AH producing 2 mm BTU per hour to maintain a temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

No. 4 Fuel Oil

While we do not have a dedicated storage tank for our No. 4 oil, we do however produce it by blending No.6 and No. 2 oil together. This is possible through an air activated DBS blending unit that pipes in both No.6 and No.2 oils at regulated levels, blends them together to the precise viscosity, then pumped through the loading rack on demand. The end result is an industrial/commercial blend used in small to medium sized boilers for schools, multi housing units, etc.

No. 2 Fuel Oil

79,781 barrels / 3.5 millions gallons of fuel oil No. 2 occupy tank No.2. This fuel is used primarily for residential heating, but is also used for light industrial use due to its low sulfur content.
